On the way to the finish...

We had had a strong breeze day yesterday. A fair start and a 3 then 4 sail reach to the 1st Corner.
We had a good beat but sometimes under powered and some times over..We went to a 2 reef jib
Another bear away and a jib reach to Barrel of Beef before another tighter reach to the top Corner. We had a very good tussle with Meteor to the finish and thanks to Paul skill and judgment we held them off to take the win. All to play for today..
Perseus^3 and Rosehearty stretching there legs to the finish. She beat us by 2min 45sec.
We got off to a good start and headed out East in to a freshening Breeze. We stayed upwind of the 56m sloop Baysian until the Jib sheet lashing broke..We switched to the staysail and there was plenty of breeze. We rounded the top of the Island and extended on a 4 sail reach before setting our Big A2 and Mizzen Staysail and set off downwind. After rounding the bottom mark it was a straight reach to the finish where we came 3rd by 42 seconds. On the Home stretch a big squall came through just as Perseus^3 came past.
RRRRIIIPPPPP not even a bang #$%^#$!! as Capt Johnno would say. It was a huge job getting it back onboard.. a great job by Team Rosehearty. Why it broke we are not sure. No visible reasons. Maybe a wave...a puff forward or an old unnoticed injury.. Andrew from Doyle unbelievably has stitched it back together. spending all night patching taping and sewing. Today we go out for the 1st race..Wish us luck!!
We had a good day of practice until... We had a good start and got to line line with a few seconds to go.. A good beat up the island and a reach with Jib, Staysail Main and Mizzen.. We bore away around the rocks at the top of the course and set the A3 We set off downwind. looking good.
This great shot was going upwind on the East shore of St bars. We were moving along at 12kts
So much fun. 1 More day of practice and then in to it...Go Rosehearty
Here we are sailing down with the A3 up. a few tubes and some tacks up wind all to calibrate the boat and get us ready for Friday. Probably 2 more practice days before we have our 3 days of Racing.
Time to put up the Owners flag at the top of Rosehearty mast 62m tall and standing on the top
is Mr Mark "the Cat" Colville. Good nerves as the boat rolls a little on deck and a lot up there. The view is out of Gustavia to the west

Finally Friday we got back to the dock to finalize our preparations for the bucket. Stuff going off, Food coming on and everywhere cleaning a boat that was already spotless. Time to get serious.
The preparations for St Bart's Bucket have been well underway for a while now. However with the weather being rough, wet and windy we were happy not to be racing this week. The boat was cleaned from top and now to the Bottom. Both Richie and Emerson spent a few hours each day scrubbing the props the rudder and the keel...
Winter is up North but not here today. After arriving in St Bart's we headed in to the dock to see our old friends in Gustavia Harbour. A quiet evening but next morning Monday was to be out to anchor. and so we went as the swell was up and it is hard inside when the dock lines are heaving and snapping. The weather was soon to turn unpleasant...
Perfect sailing conditions. 12 knots 3 sail reaching..Lunch on the table...
Sunday morning the 5th March, the wind finally dropped. It has been very windy here for a week or so. We got out the Harbour early, Said Au Reviour to the Wally who Sped on ahead, at least for a while. Hoising full sail we set off on an 85nm reach through the Caribbean. frankly it was amazing.
In this lovely shot by Richie, we have the Beautiful Roseheart, Elfie and Maltese Falcon in a row with Twizzle ahead and Behind us Kokomo. quite a line up of exceptional sailing boats
We have been back in Antigua for a few weeks now, waiting for a charter, so always ready. We are working on fixing a lot of little issues on the boat and taking the time to get her looking perfect after all we did sail 12,000 miles last year..This sunset shot was taken by Richie of Sunset over Montserrat with Falmouth Harbour in the foreground.
It is always good to be underway on Rosehearty. Watch follows watch and time slips along as does the boat. Here we are off Des Hayes at the North end of Guadeloupe. We are now sitting in the Antigua Yacht Club Marina, Tidying up, De Salting the boat and getting our work lists in order.
Towing the Wally north.. we set of with the Pilot boarding at 0900 in Port Louis.
After departure we hooked up the Waldo to the Tow rope and headed on out up the coast of Grenada, on Past the Grenadines, Past St Vincent, St Lucia, Martinique, Dominica, and finally passed Guadeloupe to Antigua. We had a fair weather window especially as for the last month it has been blowing hard. We had 15 to 18 knots but NE in the passages and less than 10 knots behind the islands. We averaged 11.5 knots as the sea state was about 1.5m
And Happy to be out the weather.. But with a full Jacuzzi and a few cocktails life is not all bad
Well the weather turned a bit nasty. We held well at anchor all night but with the rain squalls and the wind at 30 knots we decided to head for Port Louis in St Georges harbour. An hour later and Pilot onboard we made our approach through the very picturesque Carenage to the Lagoon. Port Louis is fairly new and quite protected. So after formalities completed it was off for an Island tour and Lunch at the Calabash Hotel....Back in ....Prickly Bay! A very nice swim afterwards from Waldo on Grand Anse Beach and a lovely dinner in the aft Cockpit. and time for bed tired but happy..
