We had a nice sail on Down to Bequia to the South of st Vincent. Small island but very quaint. maybe 5,000 folk live here..We anchored down in Admiralty Bay and went for the mandatory after sail swim off the Wally in calmer waters. Winds continue to be stiff and the swell is still around. Next morning we went ashore for Shopping and Exploring. A nice Lunch on the beach at Keegans.
We had a cracking sail down from St Lucia. 25nm with the wind on the beam. seas were still rough but rosehearty rides really well. 13 knots most the way. We ran in under the lee of some very high mountains in St Vincent. Very unique and dramatic scenery and again not much for the people to do. We arrived in Walialiou and anchored in 50m of water but calm. This is where the base was built for the movie Pirates of the Caribbean, although not much remains.
We tucked up in the corner of Vieux Fort Bay as it is still quite windy and rough and passed a quiet evening. Guests were all relaxing after a swim and a good dinner. An early start tomorrow the 29th..Off to St Vincent. Not much to recommend Vieux Fort actually but for the Airport and the container dock. Town is really quite poor.
When we got into the Pitons it was quite windy and the boat that should have left our mooring had not gone and no one was on board..So we decided to move on down to Vieux Fort to be closer to our Pick up point. For later today the 28th December.

We set the main and the reacher and sailed South towards the Pitons.. However the weather Turned nasty so down it came again...The rain and the sails.. Winds are in the 20's and Gusting Higher in the Squalls

It was just as tight a Squeeze to get out of Marigot but we departed yesterday at 1100 headed for the Pitons.

This needs no explanation but here goes.. We did a little tour of the Island and stopped at the Hot springs and Volcano.. Here the guys got a nice hot mud bath and Adrien added a few words to the Crew.
Since the 22nd we have been tucked up in Marigot. A real Hurricane Hole in the middle of the West Coast of St Lucia.. The weather is still windy and wet but it is flat in here and we can concentrate on our Charter prep. However all good things come to an end and tomorrow we move down to the South of St Lucia to pick up our Guests. We are all very excited..

Another Day when the Trade Winds are re inforced and wide Awake. Anchor up at 0745. Put the wally on a long tow line. Around 75m and off we go... Seas in the Channel were nasty but luckily on the beam at around 4m (12-13 feet) Wind was gusty but Averaged 28-30 knots with higher gusts. So Strapped down we rolled out the Staysail and Headed SSE to pass to lee of Martinique.
What was great to see, finally, were so many Booby Birds diving around our windward bow chasing the fleeing Flying Fish.. Good Effort.
The second Channel crossing from Martinique to St Lucia was easier and Shorter and the seas were smaller not much but certainly easier. We got in to Rodney Bay and as it was still windy anchored with the Wally still in tow.. The guys and gals had a tough day. One of the roughest for a while, however we were all smiles to be here. She did get very salty though and needed a hot water and soap wash down.

After Anchoring in Squally conditions in deep water 50m only 100m offshore.. A long hike was taken to the Middle Ham Waterfalls. Pretty strenuous by all accounts. But peacful at anchor in between the strong showers..

On The Back side of Dominica in between the rain Showers there are lots of Rainbows.. This on the way to Roseau the Capital on the SW corner.
Sadly many of the real homes in Dominica look like this. The people here do not have much, but there is a friendliness and a warmth about them..This re created Home was from the Pirates of the Caribbean Movie and it is where Jack goes to visit the Witch in the Swamp.
One thing that has not changed in the River is it still prohibits motors. So all movement is by Rowed boats. The Dominicans do love bright colours..

Up early and off to the Saturday market in Portsmouth. The fruit and vegetables were great. Certainly no GM stuff here. After that was done we split the crew in two groups less El Capitano.. and off they went to the Indian River. It has changed little in the 30 years I have been coming here BUT for the fact it is where they shot some of the Pirates of the Caribbean. As you can see there are still Pirates up there...Boxy, Markus Emerson Raya and Jamey... Being rowed up the river by the guide David...

We arrived in to Anchor . Tied up Waldo alongside and went for a swim around the boat.
It was quite windy and rough so a full Rinse off with fresh water was done..Then it poured with rain for an hour or so! However all good and Happy to be in Beautiful Dominca. The people are so Friendly. A Trial Cocktail from a menu supplied by the girls fresh from a Cocktail course...Dinner by Raya and so to Bed..

One of the defining factors to get going is the Tow of Annalu the 45' Wally Tender. Faithfully tucked in behind us for the trip South. It limits a bit how we operate under way with the Tow. However we are all happy she is back and ready to go...Good Job Emerson!
